OUR MISSION + HISTORY

We're a student-led nonprofit that inspires and empowers technologists to effect social change.

JAN 2017

We launched as a "rebel alliance of people using technology for social good." Read our Medium post where we introduced Coding it Forward to the world. Breaking down the barriers to entry to socially-minded technology opportunities remains our foremost mission.

FEB 2017

We made the leap from a mailing list to a Facebook group, helping us grow beyond the confines of Harvard and to colleges and universities across America. To date, we have nearly 1,000 active members.

APR 2017

Applications for the Civic Digital Fellowship officially opened on April 10th. We quickly received over 200 applications from students at 80 different colleges and universities. We also launched the Pipeline Program with the IRS and EPA.

MAY 2017

We became an official 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization — just in time to win our first grants from the Shuttleworth Foundation and the Harvard University Institute of Politics.

JUN 2017

Our first cohort of Civic Digital Fellows started their fellowship at the U.S. Census Bureau, while our Pipeline Interns began work at the IRS and EPA. Meet our fellows and interns and read why they were excited to be working in civic tech.
